Adaptive Forward Lighting
This highly complex system, optional on all new Astras (except S and Exclusiv models) as part of a ‘Premium Forward Lighting Pack’ has nine, yes, nine different functions (in addition to daytime running lights and headlamp washers) in a bid to further increase the car’s safety as well as premium nature.
Features such as ‘Dynamic Curve Light’ (for looking around corners), ‘Country Road Light’ (specifically wide illumination), ‘Static Cornering Light’ (low speed manoeuvring lighting), ‘Highway Light’ (for over 60mph), ‘Town Light’ (between 20 and 35mph), ‘Pedestrian Area Light’ (up to 20mph), ‘Adverse Weather Light’ (changing beam patterns for rain or snow), ‘High Beam Light’ (the one you are familiar with on a more conventional car) but combined with ‘Automatic High Beam Switching’ (carried over from Insignia, you just know this is going to be extremely useful on dark country roads to save constantly flicking the stalk back and forwards).
Quite a lot going on then without the driver having to do anything at all. However, looking at the display unit at the show and in the video I can’t help but think it looks a bit like the T Rex in Jurassic Park when it was looking for the annoying children. Scary stuff.

Need to see around corners? There's a light for that!
That's really clever. Wasn't
That's really clever. Wasn't it Citroen who had this on their glorious DS cars in the 1950's ( mind you it'd probably break down half way through the corner!).
Well done for including this belated innovation.
ps when are we having electrically heated front windscreens a la Ford. I understand they've been hanging on to the patent for it, but it's a real safety boon in extreme weather.
