Action Stations

I’ve just seen the new TV ad, and have to say – if you can forget the Matt Damon/ Brad Pitt lookeylikies for a second – this role is one the new Opel Astra was designed to play: the getaway car.

The campaign is refreshingly cinematic – and I think quite clearly based on heist films and fast paced thrillers such as Oceans 11 (and 12 and 13) and Casino. The message here is that the Opel Astra is the car for the players as opposed to the posers. The Astra driver is young, but not elitist; they want to win, to play it risky, they set the stakes high, but always with class… (You can almost hear the ad execs in the boardroom) They have their own language, yet always their own style...
Anyway, it’s one of the most diverting car shoots I’ve had the pleasure of watching in a while. Each of the characters has style elements and characteristics which represent the car – essentially Sports, Technology, and Design.
